Säde award for best lighting design 2013 goes to Minna Tiikkkainen for her lighting design in GRIND. The jury's motivation:
”The amazing visuality in GRIND to a large extent plays with the intensity of light and its discrete shifts, as well as with total darkness. The artistic team of three persons have managed to create a rare suppleness in the expressions of movement, light and sound and the performance becomes an experience of a state of trance. It shoots straight into the marrow and creates a world with its own set of laws, that captivate and enchant. It brilliantly plays with our vision, it confuses and creates puzzling after-images for both the eye and the mind. Tiikkainens work with the light is utmost precise, and the final result turns into a unique all encompassing work of art - both visually and rhythmically. ”

Jefta starts a new creation in the end of January and with premiere in August/September 2013 at the Cullberg Ballet. The new work, entitled Plateau Effect, will be created for nine of the company’s dancers. Jefta is working in partnership with set designers Karin Lind and Simon Häggblom, as well as lighting designer Minna Tiikkainen and sound artist David Kiers.

GRIND receives three prizes at Dortmund theatre festival FAVORITEN 2012:
First out was The Wild Card 2012, offered by the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The award, which is coupled to 5.000 € in prize money, is intended to improve the company's production conditions.
The second prize was granted by a youth jury, called Preis der Jugendjury (Prize of the Youth Jury), donated by the NRW Landesbüro with state funds of 2.500 €.
Apart from this, GRIND was introduced into the performance network of the NRW KULTURsekretariat (Culture Secretariat of North Rhine-Westphalia). In order to let GRIND perform and tour regularly in a greater frame in all of Germany as well as internationally, venues, promoters and schools - from North Rhine-Westphalia and nationally - will be granted support when presenting the performance.

Jefta received the Birgit Cullberg grant of 100 000 SEK. Konstnärsnämnden (The Swedish Arts Grants Committee) hands out the Birgit Cullberg grant on a yearly basis to a young choreographer. The grant was founded by the Swedish government in relation to Birigt Cullberg's 90th birthday and was first handed out in 1999. The grant is allocated without socilitation by the working group for theatre, dans and film at Konstnärsnämnden (The Swedish Arts Grants Committee).
The grant will be handed over on the 7th of December 2013 at 17.00 at Konstnärsnämnden in Stockholm. The motivation of the jury reads:
”Jefta van Dinther's work, both the solo performances as well as his collaborations with other artists, are distinctly physical and always imply a researching of movement in dance. I his work, the creative process is displayed in real time on stage – and is often the very essence of the performance itself. With a playful relation to dispositif van Dinther also stages the relation between performer and spectator. With his most recent performance GRIND Jefta van Dinther indicates a direction within dance that is innovative and refreshingly unpredictable.”

THIS IS CONCRETE, the new performance by Jefta van Dinther in collaboration with Thiago Granato, will have its premiere in Brazil in November. The performance will play in Sao Paulo on 1+2 November during Festival Contemporâneo de Dança and in Rio de Janeiro on 7+8 November during Panorama Festival.

As of 1st of September 2012 Jefta has been appointed Senior Lecturer at the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. Together with Frederic Gies he will be the artistic director of the Master Programme in Choreography.

Jefta will hold a pitchsession during the Interantionale Tanzmesse NRW in Dusseldorf on 31 August 2012, at 13.00. During the pitch he will present both current and upcoming projects, such as GRIND as well as his upcoming collaboration with Thiago Granato (premiere in November 2012) and his new work for the Cullberg Ballet (premiere in August/September 2013).

Starting end of June 2012, Jefta will start a new project in collaboration with Thiago Granato. Thiago and Jefta will be working with sound designer David Kiers and lighting designer Jan Fedinger. Their first working period will take place in fabrik Potsdam (Germany) during July and August and later they will work in residency in Grand Theatre Groningen (Netherlands) and CNDC Angers (France). The premiere will take place in the beginning of November in Brazil, and the piece will be presented in both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, see info below. A subsequent tour will follow in Europe in 2013.

Brazil! The trio Kneeding will go on tour in Brazil. We will dance and sweat in three cities and festivals, starting in Belo Horizonte on 1+2 November, moving on to Sao Paulo on 5+6 November and finishing in Panorama Festival in Rio de Janeiro on 9+10 November. I will also teach a workshop in how to knead in Sao Paulo on 3+4 November.

Stockholm! The Blanket Dance - a collaboration between Frederic Gies, DD Dorvillier and myself - will be presented at MDT in Stockholm on 11+12 October. During the days after, on the 14+15 October THE WAY THINGS GO - my piece from 2009 - will be danced by the Cullberg Ballet in Kulturhuset in Stockholm. For this occasion, and maybe more to come, the original choreography will be performed by nine dancers instead of five, during walk-in-walk-out situation in one of Kulturhuset’s gallery spaces.

During sommer.bar in Berlin, in the context of Tanz im August, I have been given a carte blanche. For this occasion I have decided to present the performance Kneeding. So for all of you who have not seen it, please do come. It will take place at 22.00 on the 27th of August in Podewil, and I can recommend Margrets Sara Gudjonsdottir's Soft Target, which will be presented at 21.00, while you are at it. And after our show there is the closing party of sommer.bar.

DD Dorvillier, Frederic Gies and Jefta van Dinther will be teaching a workshop at Fabrik Potsdam in the context of festival Herbstleuchten. The workshop is a parallel development of The Blanket Dance, a work that focuses on the non-linguistic power of touch in order to highlight it as a primary means of producing sense in the world. In the workshop they will teach physical practices that are used in the making of the piece with the same name (premiere February 2011). The practices from The Blanket Dance continue the formulation of aesthetic, social, emotional and philosophical questions and propose expanded ways of developing physical awareness and critical thinking through the senses, in particular through the sense of touch. The workshop is a means of sharing work with audiences and colleagues, proposing physical practices not only as training for the body, but as a frame for discourse on the subject of touch, society, dance and art.

Jefta will start a first research phase on a new project during a residency at WELD in Stockholm. The project is an artistic collaboration between light-designer Minna Tiikkainen and himself, and will research on the interaction between light and body: on the movements that this interaction generates and/or seems to generate. In the project they search for assemblages of perceptive/sensorial effects that take place in a body’s relation to light, which border on the invisible, intangible and unintelligible. What exactly a viewer experiences - be it light or body - is not so clear, nor very important. Instead, they look for a fusing of the elements, creating situations in which light and body concretely start to interact, and where one becomes indistinguishable from the other. Alongside this "co-existence" runs the subject of productivity as an expression. A performance as machine. An active working place where events are produced, and where a causal production is tacit. But where at a closer scrutiny, the machinery, including all the preparation and surplus expression, is a creation of productivity itself. Where in fact every moment is an orchestrated choreography.
